Swan Bothy lies at the heart of Martnaham nature reserve on the edge of a two mile long loch - a stretch of water which is a haven for wildfowl and swans - fringed on the opposite shore by one of the last remaining oak woods in south west Scotland.
Set within extensive private grounds and enjoying magical views across the loch, visitors are steeped in nature as they relax into its rhythms away from everyday cares.
The granite built cottage once housed the gamekeeper, a netting loft and visiting carriages from Culzean Castle, home of the Marquess of Ailsa who enjoyed bringing picnic parties to this far flung corner of his estate.
The current owners, whose family have lived on the estate for nearly 100 years, created the comfortable retreat you find today.
Blending old with new, antique furnishings and art with top quality beds and mod cons, including a Bose sound system for a romantic sound track to your Scottish escape. The cottage is settled gracefully in the nature that envelops it and the stress of life drops away as the symphony of bird song assails the senses and time ceases to matter in the soft morning air.
The recent high quality conversion provides - on the first floor - a double bedroom with en suite bathroom, a twin bedroom with adjacent shower room with WC and a small single bedroom.
All beds are of high quality and all bedrooms have views onto Martnaham Loch. Freshly laundered bed linen and soft towels are provided as well as Sea Kelp hand soap, shower and bath wash from The Scottish Fine Soap Company, there is also a hair dryer. A cot and high chair are available if required.
The ground floor consists of a kitchen/dining room with lochside view and is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, glasses, pots, pans, electric cooker, dish washer, fridge-freezer, electric kettle, table mats and tea towels. A barbecue and outdoor seated dining area for those who like to dine al fresco.
The sitting room with its bay window seating overlooking the loch has an open wood burning fire, comfortable furnishings and TV and music centre. A further double bedroom is adjacent to a well equipped laundry room and cloakroom.
The well-insulated cottage also benefits from oil fired central heating. A bike store and table tennis table is available for guests’ enjoyment.
Please note that the lochside garden is unfenced.
